A.  RECOUNT

PURPOSE

GENERIC STRUCTURE

EXPLANATION

Recount
To tell the readers what happened in the past through a sequence of events
1.Orientation (who, what,when, where, how, etc.)
2.Events (in achronological order)
3.Evaluation (comments of writer in personalrecounts)
4.Reorientation(conclusion, tentative in personal recount)

1. The story of the past, usually real, in the form of one’s experience.
2. Using the past tense (dominat)
3. No problems/conflicts faced by characters
4. Telling the events  in sequence/
chronology.

B.  SIMPLE  PAST  TENSE

      A : S + To be (was/were) + …….
            B : S + Verb2 + …….

Ø       Simple Past Tense is used for the facts or events that occurred in the past.
Ø       Verb simple past tense (verb to form-2) are regular formed by adding "-ed" endings on verb.



                                             USEFULNESS :

1.    Simple past tense used to express an action that has been completed.
2.    Specific time must be expressed or implied.

Ø    Negative sentences with simple past tense is made and did not.
Ø    Did is the past tense of the verb to do. And did not often shortened to did not.

C.   SIMPLE PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE

S + was/were + verb1 + (ing) + ……

USE OF PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE :
1.       Past Continuous Tense is used to declare events that are happening at a specific time in the past.
2.       Past Continuous Tense is also used to express two events that occurred at the same time in the past.

Ø       Negative form of the sentences in the Past Continuous  Tense is made by adding 'not' after a few were the resource persons / was.

D.   THE USE WHEN OR WHILE

Ø      They mean during the time that and indicate that something is or was happening when something else occurred.




 WHEN NOT WHILE
                       
Ø      We use when, not while, to talk about something that occurs at the same time as a longer action or event that is described in the main clause.

Ø       We also use when, not while, to talk about one event that happens immediately after another and to talk about periods of time in the past.
Ø      When can also be used instead of whenever, meaning every time that

Ø      Note : Sometimes when can be used in place of  while but while can’t be used in place of when.


E.   INDEFINITE PRONOUN

Ø       An indefinite pronoun does not refer to any specific person, thing or amount. It is vague and "not definite". Some typical indefinite pronouns are.
Ø     all, another, any, anybody/anyone, anything, each, everybody/everyone, everything, few, many, nobody, none, one, several, some, somebody/someone
Ø      Notice that a singular pronoun takes a singular verb AND that any personal pronoun should also agree (in number and gender).
